A local karate club based in Wetwang is celebrating another clean sweep by three of its students at a recent grading held by the British Karate Association (BKA) in Manchester.
Mike Cundle and Josh Newbury (18) were awarded their black belts (1st Dan) at their very first attempt after five years of study and training.

And there was more success too for Luisa Cundle (19) who was awarded her 2nd Dan by the BKA's Chairman. Certificates were presented to the students last Saturday.

A delighted Mike Lewis, the club's senior instructor said:

"We're really pleased for all the students. They've put a lot of work into their training and deserve their success.

“Anyone who is prepared toput in the work they have can achieve this level."

The success also means that the Cundle family now boasts three black belts between them.

Luisa's brother Mark already holds his 1st Dan and is working towards his 2nd Dan.

Josh Newbury is another 'karate kid' as his dad Mike is working on his 2nd Dan while sister Eilish is studying for her black belt.

Both dads reckon that doing a sport together is good for their families despite them having to work hard to keep up with their 'karate kids'.

l The Wetwang Wado Ryu Club now has five students with black belts which gives junior students and new starters access to almost one to one tuition.

The club meets on Saturday mornings from 10.30 to 12.00 in the Wetwang Community Hall.

New members are very welcome and the club provides a free introductory session.
