DRIFFIELD Mariners AFC just missed out on automatic promotion from Hull Sunday Wyke Division 3 after a thrilling end to last season - but this week the club received the news they have been waiting for when they heard that, after all, they had gained the coveted promotion to Wyke League Division 2.
Mariners narrowly missed out on second place in Division 3 by a single point, but with the usual summer reshuffle in divisions with clubs disbanding or dropping out they got the step up their efforts deserved.
The promotion is Mariners third on the bounce as they press towards the Premier league.
The new season will start with an away fixture at old rivals Cherry Burton.
