Driffield Panthers U102

Hall Road Rangers U100

Game One

On a perfect day for football Panthers entertained high flying Hall Road Rangers at the rec.

The early exchanges were very even with neither side getting the upper
hand. Hall Road were first to test Harry Sharpe who saved well from a free kick.

Driffield, sponsored by Pallet Track, then stepped it up a gear with the midfield trio of George Seville, Ben Nellis and Keir Smith taking control of the game.

The next action was football of the highest order with Jonny Pallant breaking up a Hall Road attack and sliding a pass to George Seville who in turn threaded the ball through to Oli Thompson who took the ball in his stride and unleashed a shot, which the keeper could only parry to the feet of Keir Smith, who stroked the ball into the back of the empty net.

From the outset of the second half Driffield were on the front foot with Oli Thompson making the keeper get down well to save another goal bound effort.

Hall Road still looked dangerous on the counter attack but the reliable defence of Harry Deness and Jonny Pallant remained resolute with some match winning tackles.

Midway through the half Panthers got a second goal which their play totally justified when Oli Thompson created some space after wrong footing a defender in the penalty area and he thumped a shot past the bemused keeper.

Panthers continued to dominate but could not convert any more chances, this was an first-class performance from all the players. Excellent boys well done.

Game Two

DRIFFIELD Panthers began the second game determined to get another win under their belts.

The first corner fell to Driffield and George Seville drilled in one of his specials but Ben Nellis directed his header just wide.

From the goal kick the visitors launched their first attack which ended with a fine save from Panthers keeper Harry Sharpe.

This was the springboard for Georgie Woodmansey and George Seville to try and create openings for front man James Falcus who battled for every little scrap against a strong Hall Road defence.

After some intense midfield play Georgie Woodmansey released James Deighton who fired in an excellent strike which the keeper pushed round the post; there were also chances for Callum Deness and George Wilkinson.

Hall Road started the stonger in the second half putting constant pressure on the defensive pair of Jonny Pallant and Keir smith who both dealt admirably with the fleet footed forwards.

Panthers got undone at a set piece when a corner came in and the goalmouth melee ended with a forward poking the ball home.

This spurred Driffield back into attack mode with Keir Smith testing the keeper with a ferocious drive, then a pin-point pass from Jonny Pallant found Josh Rounding who forced the keeper to save smartly.

Another great performance boys.

Manager’s player of the week Jonny Pallant.
