Driffield Cougars8

THIS game was effectively over by half time when four goals from Striker Nathan Edmunds and two from central midfielder Matt Hostick gave Cougars a 6-1 lead at the interval.

Defence splitt
ing pace from Edmunds to get onto some great through balls from Ben Joinson, Davie Overmeer and Matt Hostick was key to this latest victory.

An opportunist goal from a rebound and a long range effort on his weaker left foot set Hostick up for a possible hat-trick, that was ultimately not to be.

The only dissapointment was conceeding a goal in the last few minutes of the first half to spoil an otherwise perfect first 35 minutes.

With nothing to lose, Leven were fully committed to attacking in the second half, and as such contributed to a great game of football which resulted in a further two goals for each team.

Edmunds inevitably took advantage of Leven’s increasingly advancing defense to secure his double hat-trick.

Ben Joinson and Christian Steele both repeatedly came close to scoring, being inches short of netting on each occasion.

Having run their socks off all match, perhaps both deserved more luck in front of goal as reward.

Keeper Aiden McNair, who stayed focussed and alert during great periods of innactivity, and made a couple of stunning one-on-one saves, was blameless for Leven’s goals, being as they were, the result of fundamental defending errors.

Overmeer narrowly missed out on man of the match to Edmunds, but his vision and awareness to supply balls into the forwards, sometimes from as deep as his own area was again exemplary.

Great game, well done to all involved!
