EBBERSTON regained the Driffield Evening Cup when they easily defeated holders Flamborough in a repeat of last year's final of the Richardson-Ford sponsored competition at the Recreation Ground on Sunday.
Ebberston won by ten wickets.

The Scarborough side, who have featured strongly in the cup over recent years were in prime form with the ball when Flamborough took first use of the wicket and with the seasiders’ main batsmen failing to shine, slumped to a disappointing 80 for 9 wickets in their 20 overs.

M Davies (17) and W Traves (19) were the only batsmen to get a start in the face of the sharp Ebberston attack of C Palmer (5-19) and M Turnbull (2-30). The other bowlers to strike were T Bumby (1-10) and R Webster (1-17).

In reply Ebberston looked more comfortable in posting 149-6 in their overs with T Broach top scoring on 40 , E Craggs hitting 37 and C Palmer following up his stint with the ball with 23. For Flamborough Jewitt took 1-34, Traves 2-30 and Holmes 3-19.

Flamborough’s batting again disappointed in their second innings as C Palmer again dominated, taking 4-15.

Indeed, extras threatened to become their top score.

In the end Flamborough could only just inch past the Ebberston lead, finishing on 72 for 9 wickets leaving the Scarborough side with only four runs to make for victory, which they achieved without loss to take back the Cup.
