The EGGS (Elderly Gentlemen's Golf Society) at Driffield Golf Club had their annual away day at Boothferry Golf Course on Wednesday 24th June.
The day began with a bacon roll, coffee and a friendly chat to friends in the Spike Bar at Boothferry club house.

The thirty four golfers enjoyed 18 holes of golf in superb weather. The temperature reached 22oc but a light easterly breeze kept ev
eryone cool. The round was followed by the presentation of prizes and a celebration meal. It was a great day out with much fun and laughter.

The best round of golf was won for the second year running by David Coats with a Stableford score of 38 points.

Runner up was Richard Harrison with 37 points. John Prescott took third prize with 37 points as he had a lower score over the final nine holes.

John also won the over 75 trophy. The putting competition was won by last year’s captain David Jackson. Richard Harrison achieved the longest drive on the 4th hole. The nearest-the-pin competition on the 10th hole was won by Chris Hey.

l The Driffield EGGS is a group of golfers who are 60 years old and over. Some members are well into their 80s. They play up to three times per week throughout the year although there is no compulsion on when to take part. There are matches against clubs as far apart as Scarborough and Hull, open competitions, and regular Driffield EGGS only events. The focus is on friendship and enjoyment. Competition is not taken to extreme lengths.

The society now has over 70 members but is always looking for newcomers to join them.
