DRIFFIELD teams again suffered as the heavens opened again at the weekend, with Driffield 1sts' clash against Sheffield Collegiate falling victim to the elements.
One or two of the other Yorkshire League games also fell foul of the weather with Hull and Rotherham similarly not managing to bowl a ball.
Leaders York won easily at home to Appleby Frodingham but Scarborough could feel hard done by as they hi
t 193-3 at Doncaster , then reduced the home side to 77-6 before the rains came.
Worse luck befell Castleford. The unlucky home side racked up 233-6 and then reduced Cleethorpes to 32-9 only for the heavens to open at just the wrong moment!
Driffield 2nds didn’t get a bat at Hornsea where the home side looked to be setting up a decent target. Hornsea reached 206-7 so the Woldsmen might have struggled in reply against the leaders.
It was a case of no luck for Driffield 3rds too who had Londesborough Park 2nds at 13-2 before rain caused abandonment.
Driffield 4ths were going well at Cottingham where they were inserted by the home side and saw Ben Dobson (44) and Martin Syme (41) get them away to a useful 66 start.
Matthew Nesfield contributed 28 and Driffield had reached 153-5 in 29.4 overs when rain intervened and no further play was possible.
Driffield 5ths were the only one of the club’s sides to complete a game but ended five runs short against Leven (see Independent round-up above).
