Emergency services closed the road for more than a day due to the size of the lorry and complexity of the scene, which allowed investigators to complete enquiries and clear the area. It later reopened at 1am on Friday January 6.

North Yorkshire Police are now urging anyone who saw the HGV travelling from Pickering towards Whitby, or the collision, to come forward. In particular, those with dash-cam footage.

Anyone with information should email [email protected] or call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option one and ask for Traffic Sergeant Ryan Lyth.
