The Vicar of Hutton Cranswick is so confident in the gifts and talents of her congregation that she is giving money away!
At the Sunday services on May 25, the Rev Ruth Hind will be giving away £5 notes to the members of her congregation and issuing a challenge to make it grow.
Mrs Hind said: "People are expected to spend their £5 to buy whatever they need to make
a bit of money.
"One person might buy the ingredients they need to make cakes that they then sell. Someone else might buy seeds and compost. I know of one lady who plans to buy oranges and sell marmalade. The money raised then comes back to the church."
The congregation, including a number of children, will have all summer to put their money-making schemes into practice, and the money will be collected on the weekend of September 20 and September 21.
The challenge is only one aspect of St Peter's Festival of Talents, however. Over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend (May 23 and May 26) people's skills and hobbies will be celebrated in a variety of ways.
Throughout the weekend there will be displays and demonstrations including: sugar craft, lace-making, model making, bell ringing and children's crafts. (Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 1-5pm, Monday 10-5pm.)
On Friday, (7-9pm), there will be a preview evening with wine and nibbles while Saturday evening sees a children's talent contest, (7pm).
Further details and tickets are available from S Blackburn on (01377) 270356 and M Thompson on (01377) 271287 (preview) or from M Pickles on (01377) 202006 (talent contest).
Residents of Hutton Cranswick are a talented bunch, and from May 23 to May 26 St Peter's Church will be celebrating the variety of different gifts and abilities in their Festival of Talents.
The event includes demonstrations and displays, a concert and talent show, specially themed morning and evening services and a preview evening.
