RESIDENTS in the East Riding are being asked for their views on the collection of their green waste and recycling bins.
The council wants to continue the weekly green bin collection while extending the recycling collection service, which would cost £303m over the next 10 years to meet increased Government targets.

But before making a decision the authority is consu
lting residents on what sort of kerbside waste and recycling service they want.
The council is asking residents to give their views on a range of options for the collection service.

Option 1 proposes no change to the current service, based on the green bin for non-recyclable wastes and the blue bin for paper, plastic bottles and cans. This would cost £283m over 10 years.

Option 2 is based on the current green and blue bins but with the addition of a brown bin for garden waste for all East Riding households, costing £292m over 10 years.

Option 3 provides residents with a weekly collection of non-recyclables in their green bin, a fortnightly collection of the blue bin with cardboard added and a fortnightly collection of garden waste in the brown bin, costing £303m.

Option 4 would establish fortnightly collections of all three bins and would cost £289m.

East Riding Council favours option 3.

Residents can register their views on the various options before the July 31 deadline by visiting the Have Your Say website at www.eastriding.gov.uk/consult or visit 'waste consultations' on www.target45plus.org.
