CONTROVERSIAL plans to build eight new homes in Hutton Cranswick are hanging in the balance after council officers called for amended plans to be re-submitted.
Plans for the housing development to the rear of 99 Main Street, currently occupied by Simpson Civil Engineering, have been deferred for further amendments to be made.

The planning application, submitted by Elmchurch Estates, was initially recommended for refusal amid concerns over conservation issues and the number of existing sites in the village already approved for development.

The initial recommendation sparked concern from Nick Simpson, managing director of the civil engineering company, for his planned move to a bigger site on Kelleythorpe Industrial Estate.

Mr Simpson told the Driffield Post last week that without the green light to develop his current site the planned expansion of the business, which may include the creation of new jobs, could not go ahead.

Once amended, the planning application will be re-submitted for further consideration by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council planners.
