PROPOSALS which would have seen two new homes built in Kilham have been rejected by East Riding councillors this week.
The application for the site of The Greens, on Chapel Lane, was refused permission by the authority's eastern area planning sub-committee, which met in Beverley on Monday.

They accepted officers' conclusions that the applicants, Personal Reps of H W Darley Deceased, had "not put forward any clear and convincing reasons to demonstrate satisfactorily" why the scheme should be approved contrary to policy guidelines.

An officers' report to the committee stated that ward councillor Jane Evison had requested the scheme go before the committee "to allow a full debate about the historic use of the site and its potential for development".

The applicants said that, though the site was outside the village development limit and in open countryside, it was previously developed land which government guidelines favoured developing.

But parish councillors recommended refusal as they felt the area was "totally unsuitable for any increase in traffic".
