TWO men have been arrested during the latest anti-poaching operation carried out by police in the Driffield area, senior officers have revealed.
The men, believed to be from the north-east, were detained in the area around Huggate and Tibthorpe last Sunday, and have been bailed to report back to police next month.

And three other people were reported for summons to court following a simil
ar operation the previous weekend.

Details of three recent operations were revealed during the area’s police partners community forum meeting.

Sgt Dave Jenkins of the Driffield Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “It’s very active and we are very busy.”

A force training day is also set to be held later this month on poaching, the first of its kind.

Meanwhile, a question was raised by a member of the public during the open forum on whether to ring the force’s emergency or non-emergency phone numbers if they see people with dogs on farmland.

Sgt Jenkins said his personal view would be for the public to ring 999, but official advice was to ring the non-emergency 0845 number instead.

Responding to a further question about the use of the police helicopter to track poachers, he added: “The biggest problem we’ve got is with the evidence with these people. We need someone to watch them.”
