The summer Dee, Atkinson and Harrison Antique & Fine Art Auction at The Exchange saleroom, Driffield, has a bit of something for everyone, whether it is silver, jewellery, furniture, ceramics, paintings or something a little more unusual.
Lots include a collection of fountain pens, tortoiseshell tea caddy, Clarice Cliff, Troika, Shelley, Moorcroft, cloissonné ware, Stanhopes, incised ivory tusk, a Japanned longcase clock, Parisian & English clocks, furniture and paintings.
Local ar
tist Walter Goodin is well represented, as usual, with four examples the largest being a view of North Yorkshire with Ampleforth and the White Horse at Kilburn in the distance (lot 487), it measures 29" x 47" and has come fresh from the recent "Walter Goodin Above All, The Sky" exhibition held in Hull, Beverley and Sewerby.
Walter's mentor Fred Elwell and his wife Mary are also represented with three views of Austria from Mary (lots 446, 447 & 466) and a still life of flowers (lot 486) and a study of a gentleman reading in bed (lot 481) from Fred. Lot 481 the study of a gentleman reading in bed is believed to be Mr Peck, a Beverley butcher painted whilst he was ill.
Other local artist of interest are James Neal and Michael Whitehand from whom there are two paintings each. Further afield, Algenon Newton, Marion Broom and Noel Leaver might spark interest.
In the furniture section there is a good variety of items, most of which have come from private sources - the Geo III mahogany & inlaid Pembroke table (lot 412), and a set of six 19th century mahogany dining chairs (lot356) to name just two.
The silver section, although a lot smaller than last sale, still has some interesting pieces.
There is an unusual collection of vesta cases including one set with a compass (lot 10), one in the shape of a flattened bullet (lot 8), and a flattened football (lot 11).
The sale will take place on Friday July 3, commencing at 10am, with viewing, Thursday 2nd July 10am-4pm, and from 8.30 on sale day until the start of the sale.
