A SPECIAL service of Evensong was held in Hutton Cranswick to celebrate the patron saint of musicians and church music.
For the first time ever, a service of Evensong for St Cecilia took place at St Peter's Church on Sunday, attracting an 80-strong congregation.

The choir of St Peter's was joined by other Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) choirs within the East Riding and also by other individual singers – including a man on holiday in the area from Perth, Australia.

A full choir of more than 50 took part under the direction of the RSCM's director for the north east Gordon Appleton.

Church organist and choir master Peter Maw accompanied and the Vicar of St Peter's, the Rev Ruth Hind, officiated and gave the address.

Given the success of the event, the church authorities hope similar events will be able to take place in the future.
