Bridlington Hospital cutbacks: Health secretrary Alan Johnson explains his decison

THE man who ultimately made the decision to transfer cardiac services from Bridlington was health secretary Alan Johnson.
Even though his Hessle constituency is less than an hour away, Mr Johnson MP did not bother to visit Bridlington Hospital once during the consultation process.
He received recommendations from the Independent Reconfiguration Panel at the end of July and agreed to ratify them.
He said: "I am satisfied that the proposed changes to the cardiac monitoring unit and acute medical services at Bridlington and District Hospital are right for patients and the local health service.
"The IRP has undertaken a thorough and detailed review, consulting widely with local stakeholders and providers across the NHS in Yorkshire and the general public.
"As the IRP report states, patients whose needs cannot be met by Bridlington and District Hospital will receive the best treatment in Scarborough where there is a full range of specialist facilities and staff."
