158 Squadron Bomber Command weekend reunion

BRAVE veterans who served with the famous 158 Squadron of Bomber Command during the Second World War are reuniting this weekend.
Almost 900 crew members based at the Lissett Aerodrome flew out over Flamborough Head during the war and never returned.
The Squadron played a leading role flying Halifax aircraft in the Bomber Command offensive and over 340 crew were taken as prisoners of war in Germany but 61 evaded capture after being shot down and managed to find their way back to Britain.
Their annual reunion weekend is taking place at the Expanse Hotel, Bridlington, organised by the 158 Squadron Association which has over 400 members worldwide.
A memorial service will take place in Lissett Churchyard at 11am on Sunday by the memorial to the 851 young aircrew who lost their lives.
The veterans will also be paying a visit to Sewerby Hall this weekend to see an exhibition about their efforts during the Second World War.
