ACCLAIMED British pianist John Lill is to appear in a concert in Beverley later this month.
Mr Lill, whose concert career spans over 50 years, will be playing some of his favourite works as part of the Beverley Chamber Music Festival.
He studied at the Royal College of Music and gave his first piano recital at the age of nine.
At the age of 18 he performed Rachmaninov's third piano concerto under Sir Adrian Boult and in 1970 he won the Moscow International Tchaikovsky Competition.
He has recorded the complete piano concertos of Beethoven, Brahms and Rachmaninov, and he is particularly regarded as a leading interpreter of Beethhoven.
This concert of his favourite works includes Mozart, Schumann, Chopin and Brahms.
Martin Roscoe, artistic director of the Beverley Chamber Music Festival, said: "We are delighted that John Lill is coming to the festival and the concert is sure to be a treat.
"This time last year the festival's future was seriously in doubt after the Arts Council of England withdrew their funding, but thanks to a number of donations we have managed to continue. We hope that this year's festival will attract a large audience."
Mr Lill has appeared in over 30 of the BBC Proms concerts, and regularly appears with all of the major British symphony orchestras.
He was awarded the CBE for services to music in 2005.
Andrew Penny, the festival's chairman, said: "Also appearing at this year's festival is the Cropper Welsh Roscoe Trio, who will perform a survey of Beethoven's piano trios over three lunchtime concerts."
He added: "The outstanding young violinist Matthew Trusler is returning to Beverley for a recital, and the Brass Quintet of Opera North with Chris Bradley (percussion) are also giving a concert."
John Lill's recital takes place on Wednesday September 24 at St Mary's Church, Beverley.
Tickets cost from £6 to £14.
Tickets can be booked at Beverley Tourist Information Centre, tel (01482) 391672.
The Chamber Music Festival runs from Wednesday September 24 to Saturday September 27.
