ARTWORK by world-famous artist David Hockney is to be displayed in the East Riding.
Pocklington Arts Centre will host the Six Fairy Tales From The Brothers Grimm exhibition from next week.

Hockney, who hails from Bradford and has family in Bridlington, is regarded as one of the most popular and versatile British artists of the 20th century.

He has built up a reputation as a talented painter, printmaker, photographer and stage designer and recently brought the spotlight on the Yorkshire Wolds with a series of paintings including Bigger Trees Near Warter.

This latest exhibition is a collection of 39 etchings drawn directly into copper plate, illustrating six fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm.
Hockney has given each fairy tale his own interpretation; rather than illustrating the stories literally, he has created vivid images to encapsulate a mood or detail. Some of the tales are familiar, like Rapunzel and Rumpelstiltskin.

Others, such as Old Rinkrank, Fundevogel and The Little Sea Hare are little known.

The exhibition, on tour from the Southbank Centre in London, will be on show from Saturday August 16 until Sunday September 14.
