Bollywood at the Freedom Festival

CHART-topping band The Magic Numbers are to headline a free music festival in Hull.
The Freedom Festival is being held this weekend in Queen’s Gardens, Queen Victoria Square and Trinity Square in the centre of the city.

Also on the line-up are Noah And The Whale, The Paddingtons, Gulnaz, Lady Lykes and The Talks who will perform with Neville Staple of The Specials.

Hull Urban Collective will perform as part of the Love Music Hate Racism initiative.

Queen’s Gardens, also known as The Freedom Gardens, will host a Festival Village featuring the original Silent Disco from the Netherlands, performance hairdressers Osadia from Barcelona and stalls and refreshments.

A Bollywood-style show featuring an array of outrageous props, spectacular costumes, pyrotechnics and huge water effects is part of the entertainment.

Choreographed by Simmy Gupta, Bollywood Steps will be on stage from 1pm to demonstrate the typically Indian show which will include a wet sari scene, quick costume changes, the boy meets girl storyline and marriage.

Dance numbers during the 45-minute performance will incorporate bhangra, hip hop, break dancing, classical Indian dance, creative, salsa, jazz, flamenco and contemporary dance.

Pop fans will be able to enjoy performances in Victoria Square by former Blue member Simon Webbe and other acts including Sweet Rebellion, Vogue, Booty Luv, Lucie Silvas, Maria Lawson, The Ryes, Sadie Ama, Phoenix and City Girls.

The Freedom Festival, which will culminate in the Freedom Fireworks Finale, kicks off at noon on Saturday August 30 and will finish around 10.45pm.
